What Causes Sweating?

How to Apply Insulating Tape

Here’s how to seal your plenum box from sweating using insulating tape:

Step 1: Turn off the system

First, you’ll want to turn off your HVAC system. This will allow you to properly dry the plenum box before taping. 

Step 2: Remove the vent, and clean the area

Next, you’ll want to remove the vent if you haven’t already. Now that your plenum box is exposed, you can gently clean the area, wiping away any dust, debris, and moisture with a clean cloth. 

Step 3: Apply the tape

Next, you can begin to apply the tape, along the edge of the plenum where it meets with the air vent. You’ll want to carefully cut a strip long enough to cover the entire length. Then, carefully remove the backing to expose the tape’s adhesive. Start at a corner and work your way around the box until you’ve covered the entire area. Next, smooth the tape down to remove any wrinkles. If there are any gaps left, you can apply more tape to seal them. 

Step 4: Replace the air vent

Next, you can replace the air vent, ensuring a tight seal against the tape as you fasten it into place.
